GNEIS FROM IVAYLOVGRAD
Gneiss is a common and widespread type of rock, referring to metamorphic rocks with a high degree of regional metamorphism. Gneiss is usually composed of feldspar, garnet, andalusite, quartz and mica. The color of the rocks is determined by the minerals they contain. According to their origin, they are divided into orthognais (magmatic origin of the protolith) and paragnais (sedimentary origin of the protolith).
These are coarse-grained (up to several millimeters in size) with striped and schistose texture rocks, which are the fundamental rock for the Eastern Rhodopes.
The gneiss mined in the Rhodopes and the region of Ivaylovgrad is found in two main varieties - silver gray and golden brown. It is characterized by high resistance to temperature changes and a rough, non-slip surface, which makes it applicable for both interior and exterior applications.
